Research Center for Applied Science and Technology

The university was established with the following objectives:

The Research Center for Applied Science and Technology (RECAST) was built up on September 8, 1977 as a head Research and Development (R and D) foundation inside the hierarchical structure of Tribhuvan University. RECAST worked as a secretariat to the National Council of Science and Technology, Government of Nepal till 1999. It is assigned as a national point of convergence of Asia-Pacific Center for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the UNESCAP. The Center is going by the Executive Director.
Objective -The objective of the Center is to add to quick and practical advancement of the nation through upgraded R &D with the ideal use of normal assets, change and dispersal of socio-financially significant and ecologically manageable innovations to the groups and the foundations concerned.

Goals :-The goals of RECAST are:

– to attempt research for the recognizable proof, improvement, protection, use and scattering of indigenous innovation;

– to seek and distinguish exogenous advancements fitting to Nepal and investigate their prospects for innovation exchange and adjustment; and

– to direct research in fundamental and connected sciences.

Research Areas
– Renewable Energy  – Natural Products Utilization – Bio-innovation – Low cost Building Materials

– Small scale Food Processing– Appropriate Technology – Ecosystem Services and biodiversity protection, and  – Life Science

HR

At present RECAST has an aggregate number of 73 staff of which 21 are analysts and 52 are regulatory staff ( including all specialized and non-specialized utility staff). The examination have high scholastic and expert capacities with mastery in the field of Renewable Energy Technologies, Natural Product Chemistry, Agricultural Biotechnology, Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Management, Food Technology and Technology Transfer and Utilization.

Workshop and Laboratories :

As a head R and D organization, RECAST has the accompanying research centers:

Concoction and Instrumentation Lab, Building Materials Testing Laboratory,

Characteristic Dyes and Dyeing Laboratory,  Fiber Testing Laboratory,

Nourishment Technology Laboratory;  Biotechnology Laboratory, Renewable vitality Laboratory,

Mechanical workshop furnished with Lathe, Milling,Grilling, Welding, Cutting and different machines able to manufacture the configuration works.

Administrations

RECAST conducts research activities, outlines and creates models, offers mastery and consultancy administrations including instrumental and scientific services. It arranges national and universal workshops/courses and preparing all alone and in a joint effort with benefactor organizations and different establishments. RECAST gives its lab offices and specialized supervission for leading examination to Ph.D and Masters understudies predominantly from the Central Departments under the Institution of Science and Technology(loST),TU.

Documentation Unit

The Documentation Unit gives benefits mostly to the RECAT researchers. It additionally reacts to outside solicitation from other science and innovation related foundations, understudies and also college faculties.Recently, with the liberal backing from APCTT/UNESCAP,RECAST has built up Web based Nepal National Innovation System (NIS) Resource Center at the Documentation Unit.

Significant R and D Activities

RECAST has been leading innovative work exercises on the accompanying regions;

– Fabrication and Testing of Biomass Gasification for Rural Electrification supported by University Gant Commission (UGC),

– Action Research on Rocket Dryer Technology for Cardamom upheld by the Netherlands Development Cooperation SNV/Nepal.

– Exploration and Utilization of the Indigenous Renewable Oil assets in Nepal supported by University College Northampton U.K, Oxford Brookes University, U.K, British Council, British Embassy.

– Development of Gassifier Stove for household use.

– Dissemination of Indigenous and Traditional Rural Technologies for Micro-Enterprise Development in Nepal.

– Development of standard testing conventions for enhanced cooking stoves.

– Studies on high height characteristic assets (Seabuckthorn) for monetary advancement of remote ranges of Nepal.

– Technology advancement for characteristic item usage.

– Application of Science and Technology for Development subsidized by UNFSSTD/UNDP

– Development of building materials for ease lodging.

– Research and advancement of conventional water plant.

– Renewable Energy Technologies in Asia: A Regional Research and Dissemination Program subsidized by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) through Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand.

– A Study on Dye Yielding Plants of Nepal.

– Chemical and Biological Investigation of Nepalese restorative plants for hypoglycemic (antidiabetic) action.

– Knowledge scattering of Rocket Dryer Technology for cardamom at national level bolstered by the Netherland Development Cooperation SNV/Nepal.

Global Linkage

RECAST has global linkages with Asian Institute of Technology(AIT),Bangkok, Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA), FAO/Regional Wood Energy Development Program (RWEDP), Bangkok, Asia Regional Cook stove Program (ARECOP), Yogyakarta, Indonesia, JICA,/JOCV,Japan, The British Counil,World Wildlife Fund, Nepal. RECAST is the point of convergence of Asia and Pacific Center for Transfer of Technology (APCTT/ESCAP), New Delhi and UNESCO/ASTINFO the territorial officer Bangkok. It has likewise exploratory coordinated effort with University College Northampton and Oxford Brookes University, U.K.,ITR, Swizerland and Karlsruhe University,Germany. RECAST has as of late marked a scholarly joint effort with University of Hamburg and Unversity of Tubingen,Germany for directing studies on the impacts of environmental change in tree-course of events in the Rolwaling Range in Nepal Himalaya.

The university was established with the following objectives:

A Honor for Prioneering Action

The Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC), under the Ministry of Scinece, Technology and Environment Paid and Honor to RECAST, on eighteenth July, 2012 for its important commitment for the imaginative outlines of Improved Cooking Stove (ICS) which are delivered by locally avilable materials and work. The based nearby plans created by RECAST were a noteworthy achievement in this course and made access to a great many remote provincial kitchens possible. Most of the ICS models being advanced by Binomass Energy Support Program under AEPC are in certainty guided by the early outlines deveoped by RECAST.RECAT communicates its appreciation to AEPC and the Ministry of, Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Nepal for this honor.

RECAST truly demands to build up vital association with national and universal scholastic establishments, government, private divisions, and group based associations to address the nation's socio-enconomic, social and ecological issues and improve R and D for Green and Prosperous Nepal.
